As a foreign student who wants to study in Canada or who has already had the opportunity to study at Canadian universities, it is important to know the important things you need to have in your hands – the essential necessities you will need while studying in Canada as a foreign student.
In this short article we will list some of these essential things and why you need to have them. Check them out below;
1. Your study permit
You will need a study permit if the duration of your studies or course of study is longer than six months. If your studies last six months or less, you do not need a study permit. To obtain a study permit, you need your letter of acceptance, proof of identity and proof of funds.
Applications for a study permit can be made electronically, i.e. online or via paper applications, which you can obtain in full from the CIC website. As a foreign student, a study permit is very important.
2. Health Coverage
All international/foreign students in Canada must have health insurance. They are also advised to take out travel insurance. Travel insurance could save the day because life could be unpredictable. Illness, theft or injury may cause you to suddenly have to travel home and such unplanned and unnecessary expenses can only be covered by travel insurance.
Health insurance and medical care available to foreign students varies from province to province. You can take out private health insurance
3. Proof of funds
Proof of funds means documents that show that you can support yourself financially during your studies and your life in Canada. In the province of Quebec, for example, you must prove a minimum amount of $11,000, while in other provinces a minimum amount of $10,000 is required as proof.
Proof of financial support can take the form of a student or educational loan from the bank, a bank draft that can be converted into Canadian dollars, proof of funding through scholarships, etc. Proof of funds is a very important thing to have as a foreign student.
4. Your acceptance letter from the designated educational institution
The acceptance email notification that is sent to you, which starts with “Congratulations”, should be printed. Why? If you want to apply for your study permit, this is one of the necessary documents you will need at school, and you may need your letter of acceptance for it.
When applying for your study permit, you will need a CIC Acceptance Certificate and this is your letter of acceptance from the e-mail, so print it out.
5. Your Tuition fees Proof
Tuition fees vary widely in the provinces and universities of Canada. In general, tuition fees range from US$10,000 to US$30,000 per year.
But these amounts are generally affordable compared to the tuition fees in many countries. The CIBC International Student Pay Program enables students to pay their tuition fees electronically from anywhere in the world. Many universities in Canada also accept bank draft or money order in Canadian currency when paying from outside Canada.
